Christmas and Good Will

Christmas should live in our hearts through out the year. Just as the Wise Men gave gifts to our Savior, so should we give to those in need. This year make it a point to reach out to children and parents struggling to keep their families together. Pray for all families in need.

Copeland Baptist Church, Copeland. Fl

Great News! TOG has contacted ModSpace who has agreed to donate a modular building for the tiny church, nestled in the Florida Everglades. This building will replace the old, barely usable building that was used as a classroom. The new building will enable community outreach, Bible study for all ages, youth group events, and church meetings. We are so grateful to ModSpace! We will keep you posted on the project!

New Dehli, India

TOG is traveling to New Dehli in July and will meet with Ram Badan Dubey to discuss women's hygiene challenges. Pray for our safe journey, and pray that we will have success in mutual partnership.

Women's health--particularly menstruation, is incapacitating for the poor and needy if the women do not have access to sanitary products. Here in the US we take for granted the ability to run to almost any grocery store or pharmacy to get what we need, but for the women who do not have that luxury, there lives are greatly interrupted. The younger ones don't go to school, and mothers have difficulty in attending to their families, and completing other chores.

We hope to come back with ideas and hope. We will keep you posted.

Publish Date: Mar 19, 2013 67% of Ugandans vulnerable to poverty

By Innocent Anguyo

About 67% of Ugandans are either poor or highly vulnerable to poverty, the expenditure review for Uganda 2012 by the Directorate of Social Protection in the gender ministry has revealed. Dr. Fred Matovu, a senior lecturer of economics at Makerere University, who participated in the review, said the study was aimed at establishing the number of Ugandans who require social protection due to their susceptibility to poverty. Matovu said the 67% represented both Ugandans who spend below the poverty line of $ 1.20 (about sh3,170)per day and those who are below twice the poverty line, $2.40 (about sh6,340) per day. “According to the World Bank, even those who are below twice the poverty line are likely to fall back into poverty,” Matovu explained. Going by the United Nation’s Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), Uganda currently has 34.5 million people, meaning about 23.1 million are prone to poverty, and about 8.4 million of them (about 24.5%) are trapped in absolute poverty. Matovu was speaking last week at Makerere University at the release of the report he co-investigated with Dr. Patrick Birungi of the National Planning Authority. The study sampled 1,496 households in the districts of Moroto, Dokolo and Masindi. The two-year study was funded by the International Development Research Centre. Birungi noted that the research was also aimed at establishing the shocks and risks faced by vulnerable groups in Uganda, coping mechanisms used to address the risks and the role of formal and informal social protection systems in addressing the shocks.

Again, we thank Seattle Fabrics! Seattle Fabrics specializes in Outdoor, Recreational, Industrial and Marine Fabrics see their web site www.seattlefabrics.com. TeamofGod.org reached out to Seattle Fabrics for their help in providing mosquito netting for the school children in Lira, Uganda and also was able to split the donation to Liliir Education. Executive Director Brent McCann writes: The Liliir Education is extremely grateful to Seattle Fabrics for their generous mosquito netting donation. Malaria and other mosquito/fly-born diseases are rampant in South Sudan. Mosquito netting cuts down on infections at a truly significant rate. Less infections means less deaths, more productive students and families. The mission of the Liliir Education Project is to provide education and build leaders in South Sudan by establishing the first secondary school in the Liliir area and providing scholarships to South Sudanese students to attend universities in East Africa.
